Responsibilities:
The Nuclear Forensic Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining a quality assurance management system for laboratory operations that supports the requirements of an interagency national technical nuclear forensics program. The quality management system is based on recognized standards and accepted methods.
The Nuclear Forensic Quality Assurance Coordinator will assess the ability of laboratory measurement control programs to generate the requisite quality of data and will seek to provide a predictable degree of operational capability through the use of performance testing and assessments of laboratory capabilities and operational status. Nuclear forensic QA assessments will cover a number of basic quality assurance components that include the control of measuring equipment and materials, control of measurements, uncertainty evaluation, method validation, training, personnel qualification, documentation and management of analytical procedures, document control, audits, and corrective action.
The Nuclear Forensic QA Coordinator will review plans and procedures for compliance to guidelines or programmatic requirements, and operate inter-laboratory measurement evaluations or inter-comparisons using test materials. The Coordinator will organize and direct QA activities among laboratories, as directed, and interact and collaborate with staff from DOE laboratories, DHS, and FBI. A moderate amount of domestic travel will be required. The incumbent must possess the ability to obtain a national security clearance.
Requirements:
Expert professional knowledge and understanding of physical sciences, nuclear material analytical techniques, and statistical techniques attained by a combination of education and work experience to serve as a technical authority in the practice of reference material production and certification. Experience with quality assurance standards (e.g., ISO 17025) is required. Additional desired skills and experience include the preparation, organization, and presentation of scientific and technical material, both orally and in writing.
