Radiochemistry Manager

Location: 222-S Laboratory, Richland, Washington
   
Summary: Position is for a Radiochemistry Group Manager at the 222-S Laboratory, a DOE laboratory specializing in the analysis of highly radioactive samples. Work location is in the 200W Area of the Hanford Site. In addition to working with the ATL management team, the candidate will interface with union represented personnel, chemists, engineers, DOE and the public. Candidate must be able to qualify as radiological worker. 
   
Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise direct reports (chemists, scientists, chemical technologists – union represented)
  • Direct the performance of analytical work providing routine project status reports
  • Ensure ATL contract requirements are met
  • Ensure applicable quality assurance requirements are incorporated in daily work activities
  • Ensure personnel and facility safety principles are incorporated into group activities
  • Provide control of cost accounts including budget planning and analysis
  • Provide leadership, vision, and motivation in directing organization’s activities
   
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a BS in Chemistry or related science
  • Minimum 5 years laboratory related experience
  • Knowledgeable of wet chemistry, radiochemistry separations techniques and nuclear counting equipment and techniques
  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office programs (particularly Word and Excel)
   
Desired or Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Advanced degree in scientific or management studies
  • Strong understanding of radiochemistry separations and nuclear counting techniques to include alpha energy analysis, gamma energy analysis, liquid scintillation counting and gas proportional counting
  • A proven track record of leading a team of analysts in meeting data quality objectives and project time commitments
  • A commitment to analytical excellence and unwavering ethics
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic work environment
