222-S Laboratory Services

The 222-S Laboratory annually performs approximately 25,000 inorganic, organic, and radionuclide analyses on a wide range of sample matrices. The analyses are performed on approximately 3000 intermediate to high level radioactive and/or hazardous samples received from multiple locations and entities.

ATL personnel:

  • Receive and prepare samples for analysis
  • Analyze and characterize waste, environmental, industrial hygiene, nonproliferation, and emergency response samples
  • Record and track all sample and related waste materials
  • Perform analyses using proven quality control and nuclear quality assurance
  • Report results and archive material as required by our customers
  • Perform testing and develop new technology and methods
  • Train personnel to perform 175 analytical methods
  • Maintain security clearances at “L” and “Q” levels to handle national security matter

Our 222-S Laboratory staff of over 60 personnel represent a balanced pool of multi-disciplinary expertise with established credentials and the demonstrated experience needed to operate the 222-S facility to the technical, financial, quality, and safety standards required by the U.S. Department of Energy.
