GAITHERSBURG, MD - Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO) has awarded Advanced Technologies & Laboratories (ATL) International, Inc. the contract to provide technical support to DOE's Central Characterization Program (CCP) with Visual Examination Support Services under the CCP Quality Assurance Program.
"ATL is very proud to continue supporting SIMCO with their visual characterization of waste for disposition at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), one of the world's deep geological repositories for radioactive waste licensed to store transuranic radioactive waste for the next 10,000 years.", said Bill Niemeyer, President, ATL International.
SIMCO, who holds the M&O contract for WIPP, awarded this new contract to ATL after 7+ years of continuous service under a previous contract. ATL's staff are currently supporting CCP activities at multiple DOE host sites, including Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
ATL's scope will include performing safe and compliant waste characterization activities at waste generation sites throughout the Department of Energy (DOE) complex. Waste characterization services will include visual inspection for confirming Acceptable Knowledge of defense-generated, Contact-Handled, and Remote-Handled Transuranic (TRU) waste that will be certified and shipped for permanent disposition at WIPP in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
